And if there can be only one, could it be Raphael Grassetti? Not as a highlander of course, but as one of the best 3D artists of the world maybe?
Raphael Grassetti is a character artist, currently working as art director at Sony Santa Monica.
He especially worked on God of War (you may have heard this game before? xD…), being involved on every aspect of the game, including the creation of Kratos.
I discovered Raphael’s work some years ago while I was browsing the internet (like I still do), on some inspiration site like ArtStation or CGSociety (my usual starting points of the day, like I still do again). And I got punched in the eye without any warning with his Ryan Gosling’s likeness sculpt. So I guess I was half amazed by the mastery of this guy, and half sad by the long and winding road my journey would be to create something like that (yeah I’m weird).

Anyhow, like I just said, Raphael Grassetti has a great portfolio, showing some serious skills on ZBrush, on some solid understanding of the human anatomy. He teaches anatomy and help 3D artists to better understand how the body works, where the muscles get attached (critical for a head sculpting), and give lot of good tricks too (Actually, I personally bought his course on Gumroad, and he definitely knows what he’s talking about). It’s very important not to be stuck with the human basemesh provided by ZBrush, and getting to know all the subtleties of the human body.
As you’ll see, Raphael likes to create character, likeness portraits, and also creatures. I bet he really likes his work in the game industry, where he has a great variety of characters to create.
